The highly anticipated Open Neo project is now a reality. Open Neo (ON)is an open source firmware for the Neo Car Jukebox, or Neo 35, mp3 player. We at SSI America believe that the Neo Car Jukebox is a great product, and why not make it better by having an open source firmware?

The following are directions on how to upgrade the firmware on your Neo Car Jukebox mp3 player. Before you begin, please make sure a decompression utility is already installed on your system such as Winzip. Winzip can be found at www.winzip.com. Please read the directions fully before you begin.
Installation Procedure:
1) After downloading the file open it using an unzip utility (i.e. Winzip), then copy the file to the Neo Car Jukebox.
2) Disconnect the Neo from the computer (unplug the USB Cable) then power on the Neo while holding the 'Program' key
3) Menu will show, press "Play", select the "Update Neo Car Jukebox fr. HD" and press play again.
4) Update file "neo35.bin" is found, press "Select".
5) Update completes and unit restarts with new firmware
6) Done!

Factory firmware for the Neo Car Jukebox (Neo-35).
Changes And New Features:
Neo now supports "queue mode". While listening to a song, browse and select your next song, hold the "Play" button for two sec. over the song you choosed, it will program Neo and will queue the selected song to play after the current song.
NEO35/Neo Car Jukebox: max 2048 songs in playlist, max 1024 in folder
HIDDEN and SYSTEM folder are no longer shown in the display.
Fixed bug that caused a 3 second loop (bug was in ver 1.23)
Better Random support
Bug that caused Neo to crash when changing songs that had very long names(this bug was in ver 1.22 only). - FIXED
Bug that caused the IR remote to stop working after 10 min (this bug was in ver 1.22 only). - FIXED
Titles and ID3 tags are scrolling if they do not fit into the display
if the unit is turned off while playing, it resumes at the position where it was switched off.
Processor is in SLEEP mode when not used, reduces power consumption
Playlists have extension ".m3u" and show with 3 lines in icon
Upon playing a playlist, "Pl.list" shows in the display
'Program' during playlist playback results in random order
MPEG Layer-2 files can now be played with the extension ".mp2"
IDE disabled override (some Maxtor hard-drives)
A few other minor bug fixes, etc.
Autoplaylist
When pressing PLAY for 1 second on a directory, all titles in this directory and in all subdirectories are programmed as a playlist (up to maximum of 1024 titles). Together with PL.R (Playlist Random) will enable shuffle play on a directory with subdirectories.

Neo Car Jukebox users: Prior to downloading these drivers, please press the reset button located on the back of the USB bay, near the USB connector. This will attempt to re-enable the USB connection. Please allow at least thirty seconds for the OS to redetect the drive letter. If this does not work, you may download this driver.
This is the latest version USB driver. It is recommended that you update to this driver even if you have purchased a unit after September 2002
The PC version of this driver works with Win XP, Win 2000, Win ME, Win 98.
To install the driver - Download and unzip the file. Please make note of where the files have been extracted to.
Plug the Neo into your computer and go to your Control Panel ( Right click once over "My computer". This should bring up a context menu. Select Properties from the context menu and go to "Device manager"
Scroll down to Universal Serial Bus Controller and open it by clicking over the plus sign.
Double click over the Scanlogic driver ( USB2IDE ) and go to the "Driver" tab.
Choose "update driver". Click "Automatic search for a better driver ( on Win 98 ) or Specify the location of the driver (Win ME) and choose the browse to point to the folder you have downloaded the new drivers. Select the new TPP driver.

2) Download the file (ssi.exe)and Run it.
3) Then go to your "Start" key, go to "Program", go to "SSIAMERICA" and choose update.bat
4) This will start an update program that will update you USB chip in your Neo unit.
